In Need Of Some Help

[66 F-250]

hello , i know this isnt the correct spot for thie , but frankly , there is no correct spot on this site for me lol , heres whats goin on , i recently bought a 66 F250 , allthings considered its not to bad HOWEVER........i bought it with the ideal of useing it basically as a mud truck , heres where the problems fall in..... it has no powerstearing ( this thing use to be a tow truck ..... ive got alot more respect for the guys back in 66 now ) right now it has 33x12.5x16.5's on it , and theres no chance of turning at low speeds , not to great at any speed naturally , second thing being i want to beable to fit 38's so it needs about 6 inches of lift in the front and @ 9 inches of lift in the rear. I dont want to have to lift the body at all thought , i was wondering if i could use a few diffrent lift kits to make this work seeings how ive never seen a lift kit for a 66 , let alone heard of any one lifting a 66 . As far as the powerstearing gos ive heard of ppl useing bronco powerstearing boxes or toyota powerstearing boxes , any one eles out there ever heard this????? So as everything thisng is right now im at a stand still any advise or anything eles at this point would be greatly helpful

IMO you'll be better off hunting down a 77.5 to 79 F250 or F350 with the high pinion D60 to swap in. your truck if still stock drivetrain will have the drum brake low pinion D44 or D60 thats not as strong as the 77.5-79 disc brake fronts. you'll want that for what your plaining to do with your truck.

as for lifts they can be found anywhere for your truck since it's leaf sprung. natinol spring can build you custom lift springs to meet you lift needs usually cheaper. plus with your truck a 4" with trimming will clear 38's or 6" lift all around should clear w/out trimming. just do a front add-a-leaf and shackle flip on the rear and you should be good to go.

try a google search on the power steering. I read lots on people doing this swap online. since i've never done it, I can't say whats needed to do it.

In 66 power steering was a manual box with a power assist hydrolic ram that attached to the steering linkage its expensive but works good my 70 motor home has one on it. it works great but it is anchent technolagy. it would be easy to add onto your truck it may have been taken off yours at some point in its life. you could cut the front frame rail off of a newer truck and weld it on to mount the newer system. a custome pitman arm may be needed.

kool , thanx for the info on the power stearing , i wasnt aware of that , on the lift kit dise of things tho , im haveing some searous pproblem finding a lift , i want a 9" lift so i can clear 38's , 39's but as stands a 6" is the best i have found thanx again for the info , keep it comeing
