Help with thermostat

Okay, heres the deal I have a 1990 Bronco EB with a 351w. Now I tried to replace the thermostat a while back and it worked great for the first day or so then I went back to having no heat at all. Turns out when I went to fill the coolant up it would just run right out. So after a while I got sick of dealing with it and took it to a garage. Turns out whom ever had the truck before me had drilled into the darn thing (possible to get a broken bolt out I don't know) but they had drilled it crooked. So the guy at the garage rigged it and it had been working since. Now all of a sudden I have no heat. Turns out the coolant yet again leaked out but I assume it just couldn't hold up to the pressure since it wasn't just pouring out before. So my question is can I replace the part the guy drilled into it or is it part of the block. I've been told the termostat is part of the intake manifold or is part of the block itself. I've looked online for a new manifold but none of the pictures look like it's what I need. Someone please help me I really don't want to get rid of her but it's really getting on my nerves.

The thermostat resides in the lower intake manifold. What often happens to cause a coolant leak is one of the bolts holding the intake to the heads gets corroded and breaks. IF that's what happened in your case, the p.o. may have tried to drill the old stud/bolt out of the head. If done wrong or drilled crooked, the new bolt will still leak coolant and you'll need to replace the head. The intake manifold bolts are notorious for corroding and breaking off inside the head on the late 80's-90's Bronco's. If just your thermostat quits working, try one the failsafe versions that sticks open rather than closed. That's a much cheaper fix than getting rebuilt heads, JSM84

Can you post a picture of the problem area so we can see exactly what you are talking about? Size it at about 800 x 600.

That will save a lot of guess work.

OK.. so I can't wait for the pictures, and I am just guessing here, but perhaps the hole can be drilled a little larger and re-tapped?

Maybe use permatex around the gaskets?

It certainly does look like it was drilled before. And I guess it was infact drilled crooked. I'll get a picture later tonight after dinner. So if just get a new manifold will that fix my problem.
