I see some kind of gizmo that comes off the right side manifold that has several electrical conections on it? what is? can I elimate it?

air pump what happens it i remove it? power increase?MPG go up or down? also it has a whole tree of vacume ports hooked into it on the rear of the engine. am I asking for trouble messing with these items????????? not meaning by epa laws ,I mean with running issues? That "gizmo" is the EGR (exhaust gas reserc) valve. It's a smog thing that puts a bit of exhaust gas back into your intake. If you're planning on not redoing the computer then I would keep the EGR and the cats. If you're doing a computer then it's more or less up to you. I also have a 94 with the 5.8 and I still have the EGR but no smog pump. I'm not sure how it works without setting off the CEL but all that was done befor I got the truck. If you want to do all that stuff then make sure you get a computer or a chipset to help your motor run like it's supposed to or your truck with always be in "limp mode." Hope this helps a little?
