Riding around yesterday in my 76 Bronco (3 speed manual) and started to get stuck. Instead of locking in 4 wheel drive I started rocking my Bronco back and forth (foward and reverse) I was in reverse and shifted to 1st at this point the rear end started "clanking". I stopped and locked in the 4 wheel drive, all tires pulled at this time. Once I was out of the hole I started from a dead stop and the "clanking noise" was only heard the first 5 feet of my take off. Continued to drive around in 4-High (no noise was heard). Eventually my front tires would only pull (4-High and 4-Low). Any thoughts on what i tore up and how to fix it?

Appreciate everyones help!

Deep e-nuph....,

Did you look to see if dr. shaft is still there...? :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Drop rear U-joint & turn yoke by hand. note what you feel or hear.

4 bolts & the axle pulls right out. (15-20 min. ea. side) If they're ok..,

Drop Dr. shaft, un-bolt & pull the pumpkin....you'll then see the damage.

or the rear CV joint. My front CV went out a few years ago and made a clunking noise. But check it all.
