yea... i'm pretty much losing my voice trying to talk to my girlfriend who's sitting right next to me in my truck. its LOUD on the inside. i dont mind if its loud on the outside but i'd like to be able to at least hear my radio and sometimes even my girl. (although not as often as the radio) i know i have an exhaust leak at the manifolds thats creating some noise but other than that its just common truck noise.

so my question is this... while i've got it all torn apart for the carpet to go in is there anything special i can do for noise reduction? i remember a while back i saw some type of insulation stuff you could put in most of the cavities to supress the noise but i cant find it again. the carpet i orderd does come with that jute padding on it but i'm not sure if thats going to be enough.

anybody have any thoughts?

I know you can buy Dynamat which is a good sound insulation from crutchfield. you can probably find it else where just surf the web.

Ditto, place it on the floor boards, on the inside of the door skin, over the rear wheel wells. Also check you door seals, a lot of road noise comes in through them. Check the tail gate seal, especially the bottom one. It gets crushed and after a while leaves gaps for fumes and road noise. Use a sound deadening carpet to replace the old one. Sorry to say this but you may have to change the muffler. They are rated as to sound resonance inside and out. If you are using a Flow Master 40 or 50 series, they have a pretty high inside resonance.

Good luck,

:)>-

When I got my 84 I had a serious leak at the manifold, I didn't now how bad until I removed it and it fell into two pieces...no, it wasn't a two piece system. A new set of thermal coated headers and it became a nice sounding truck that is good and loud outside and not too bad on the inside.

I highly suggest searching for Dynamat bulk packs on eBay, as opposed to purchasing from crutchfield. You can usually find the bulk packs on eBay for about 50% the cost of purchasing it in-store. I just got done lining the entire interior of by Bronco with Dynamat, and it makes a huge difference in the amount of sound that comes into the cab.

awesome... did you just do the floor or did you get in all the doors and behind trim pannels and all that. and if so how much did you need to do the whole truck.

Well I went real overkill on using the Dynamat. I did the floors completely, I also opened up my door panels covered the outer door skin then taped up the inner door panel and covered that as well. I also pulled covere the inner quarter panels, firewall, and removed my headliner and covered the inside of the roof. On top of that I covered the outer skin of my tailgate. To cover it all it took four bulk packs which normally run $200 a pack, and I found each pack on eBay for $75 a pack. The cab was pretty quite just like that, but once I put down my pad and carpet I couldn't hear a thing coming from the engine compartment or road noise.
