This one concerns my IVR and gauges not working. The other day the temp, gas, and oil pressure gauges went down to zero (quit working) The volt gauge kinda bounces there right in the middle like usual, but am i correct in thinking the volt gauge is supplied with the full 12 volts where the other gauges come off the IVR reduced to 6v? with the key on, test light in hand, if i touch the the one side of ivr it lights up bright, if i touch the other nothin but if i touch the little threaded adjuster thingy on the IVR that lights up bright too? is that voltage adjuster ***** supposed to light up if touched? is it supposed to be bare metal or have a plastic sleeve over it? (mine has no protective sleeve) I guess what i expected is with the key on, i would test the one side and it would be bright (full 12v) then when i touch the other side, not as bright (reduced volts). Please correct any wrong thinking i may have on this and offer any suggestions/remedies you may have. I will go to aftermarket 12v/ground gauge set if i need to but would like to run my stock gauges if possible. IVR's ive seen go from $30 up to$50. Thanks!

I neglected to respond to this on your "PM"

"...but if i touch the little threaded adjuster thingy on the IVR that lights up bright too? is that voltage adjuster ***** supposed to light up if touched?"

The earlier EB's had this.., I don't think the later ones did & the aftermarket ones .... I doubt , have it.

I believe it's a factory "pre-set" adjuster. It may change the V up or down 1-2 V.

As for volts on it....doesn't surprise me. Mine has no sleeve as well.

"Thanks again. I will make some leads and try a 6v battery to one (or more) of the gauges to make sure the guages actually work before i go drop coin on a new IVR"

One quick test., is to ground the oil press. lead, fr. the sender, on the engine/to ground "momentarily", key on.

Have a helper watch the gage for movement.

Best not to leave it grounded, so as to peg the gage.

I would assume if it (oil press. needle) jumps up., the IVR is OK.

Lastly., I'm assuming the gage systems have been checked for good ground..., the lights work, etc.

take temp wire off sender.turn key to accessory.connect a volt meter, one side to ground other to connector on sender wire.should be a pulsing 4.5-7 volts.if so ivr should be ok.since oil, temp, fuel are all connected to ivr, checking any of the three will give same results.make sure cluster is grounded.resistance accross oil, temp.fuel with ivr disconnected and sender wires disconnected, gauge resistance should be 10-14 ohms.if readings are higher or lower, gauge is not going to be very accurate.

good ground...backlighting on the gauge works nice and bright, signal lights light up green, red hi beam light works, volt/ammeter (whatever) bounces around, everything works except gas oil and temp. I have to order a few things from JBG soon so i'll pick up a IVR and plug it in there.

Mach.,

I forgot to mention in the PM.,

I doubt having voltage at that pin on the back of the mini volt. reg. is the cause of the problem.

The VR likely failed interally, as already suspected.

Where is the cluster suppose to be grounded at?? I'm having the same problem, I have new sensor and a new ivr. I get voltage to the ivr and on the other side it goes to 5v for a second then goes away then back on and off.. Is the ivr suppose to pulse like that or did I get a faulty ivr?? All wires are good and sensors are installed.. PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong...

"Is the ivr suppose to pulse like that?"

YES

"Where is the cluster suppose to be grounded at?"

The cluster is ground. Gages ***** into cluster. Cluster is grounded to/thru dash/screws.
