Fuel tanks

OK, I got my seats out, doors off, floor matting/(carpet?)out, and dropped the gas tanks. My question is...is there a tool for removing the sending unit & float from the tanks. I'd like to replace them while the tanks are out.

You should be able to tap the locking ring counter clockwise to loosen it and then remove it by hand. I'd use a brass rod or a piece of hard wood to tap it with since they will not generate a spark.

A screwdrive just cuts into the tabs, been there done that. I used a blunt piece of metal. I like the idea of using something non sparkable. Why didn't I think of that? :wacko:

Dont make a mistake and think that the phillips head screws you see are the thing you need to remove to get the sending unit out.. the sending unit is held in by a ring with three flat but twisted upward edges.. tap on these with a blunt object and the ring will unscrew about a 1/4 turn and pop right out.. just look at a pic of a sending unit and retainer ring on line to get the idea.. o and i replaced mine easily and it had been on there for since 1970.. lol
