Theres an electric sending unit that goes in the tank,If you know how to use a tester you can trace the wire to see if its not broken or shorted. If the wires ok that leaves the gage itself or the sending unit in the gas tank.We drive kinda old trucks the wires can be brittle,I got kind of agrrevated and ordered a Painless harness to replace every thing

I usually find that a non-working gauge is caused by corrosion on either or both

of the connections at the tank (ground or power) clean up both, coat with a good

di-electric compound and see if it works.

If none of the above work, your float in the tank could be stuck. That is pretty easy to pull, break it loose and put it back.

well i removed sending unit it was getting power all the way to the unit. I moved the float arm and the gauge would move accordingly. Put everything back together and still not working. Could it be the gauge or does it still sound like the sending unit. One thing i forgot to mention when the key is turned on the gauge reads full all of the time.
