Does anyone know if a 9 inch posi rear end out of a 1970 Mercury will fit in a 1969 Bronco? It is a 31 spline. Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Mark.., welcome..!!! >:D< <'>

Basically, a 9" is a 9" ... however, your question is a bit un-clear.

RU speaking of the WHOLE rear ... i.e. from drum to drum..?

Or just the center section diff. ??

If this is the case., then they should swap.

"It is a 31 spline."

Assume you mean the Merc. is a "31" as the Early Broncos came with 28 spline.

These must match. (meaning you'll need 31 spline axles)

Lastly., sometimes the "yoke" (where the u-joint locks in) is different & needs to be changed.

Also the "GEAR RATIO" must match your front diff.

Curious., what exactly is your goal here, with this swap...??

I am thinking a swap, drum to drum.

I can't help you there.... maybe someone else can.

The overall width may be dif., the spring-pad location & angle may be dif.

Shock mounts/lug pattern..?

"9 inch posi rear end"

Being a '70 ...this (posi cutches) may need re-building as well. :glare:

OH..!! there's also small & large outer axle tube bearings to be aware of.

Forgive me for stating the obvious but the mercury would be coil sprung and the bronco ( unless modified ) would be leaf sprung. This would have to be addressed in order to work in the bronco.
