My recently installed 460 is throwing me and a local mechanic for a loop... I installed the engine myself, and had the truck running but noticed the intake leaking. So I pulled the intake and replaced the intake gasket. But now I cant get the engine to crank again. I assumed it was the timing or distributor alignment which I worked on fixing for a few days before I gave in and dropped it off at my local mechanics. After a couple of days at it his only answer as of now is that hes just as baffled by it as I was. The engine fires, and misses, fires and misses. I dont know, could it be an electrical issue?

run an overhead on the valves and set the valves to correct adjustment...check your ignition coil....and check your icu "ignition control unit" they temporarily go out and cause mis-fires. check vacuum leak in all the lines too that are hooked up anywhere concerning the intake especially close to the carb.

When you say run an overhead on the valves, what do you mean exactly? And how should I go about that? As far as the coil, its fairly new. Maybe used for a month? And the ICU, is that the voltage regulator which is back behing the starter solenoid, or the box on the right hand side of the engine compartment? Thats the only thing that hasnt been raplaced. As far as the vacuum lines go Ill look into that more. Is there a chance a valve is stuck or something? I really dont get it. Thanks for the input though!

on the overhead i mean setting the valve clearance as how it is supposed to be and i cant name off the top of my head...but do that by getting feeler gauges and measuring between the rocker and valve spring to the right clearance when engine is on tdc best way to do that is get a chilton manual or something to that nature it will be able to explain it clearer thani can. the icu is located on the driver side fender well and is common for these to go out and causes stalling and rough idle and sometimes no start...bout thirty bucks an oreilleys. and if a valve was stuck you would either hear an ungodly noise or just plain it would run like **** and probably be smelling gas horribly verry horribly.

Here are a few things it could be 1.distributer is 180 degrees out 2. bad ground 3.carb leaking( sucking air)4.brain box not working. These are just a thought to what could be wrong ,good luck.
