drum brakes to disc with a d30

On the 66 bronco with the dana 30 front, is the drum or can the drum be separated from the hub?

Cuz I was trying to split the drum from the hub so I could try and fit a disc on there and possibly match it with a caliper...or is this not possible.

Do I have to change the whole knuckle?

Please remember, I am in the Philippines, were I can't just go down to Napa, Kragen, or...the local wrecking yard and get me a d44. What's plenty here would be 6 hole diffs for toyotas, nissans, etc...

PS if the best will be to order the US, so be it, will have to do that down the road.

I have power brakes set up now, but would like to also have disc brakes.

Check out tomsbroncoparts.com & look at their disc brake kit. (other suppliers have them as well)

But.., yes, you can seperate... sometimes ea. lug-stud needs to be shaved down near the drum as they've been swedged.., or full of rust & crud. And.., sometimes the drum sticks to the hub flat surface.

And yah.., it takes a bit more than just removing the drum.... ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks Bob, was really curious cuz the drum itself was stuck/fussed to the spindle, so I thought it might be one piece. I will try again to separate, this time I will take it to machine shop with a press.

I've done this conversion before on my FJ40 (I see you have cruzrs too) by using Mitsubishi Montero rear discs and calipers (they slip right on) just have to make mounting bracketst to weld the calipers on to the diff housing. Was hoping I could get scout or F150 discs to slip over the spindles.

Note that I am in the Philippines and there aren't too many US manufactured vehicles in the wrecking yards. Mostly Japanese, 6 lug set ups.

I've read on the classic bronco web of using chevy discs, but is that usable on a D30? I know of two 4 wheel drive chevy suburbans that have been junked around here that I could possibly use the parts from.

I admire your thinking out of the box......

Pressing the studs down a bit will release the drum.

I can't give a confident answer here but there are those on this board that have boneyard mix & match set-ups that work fine.

Hopfully, they will chime in & report on their successes.

Yah.., Landcruisers are fun as well. 2nd. only to the EB. IMHO

I had same problem. I have a dana 30 and when I bought my truck the guy threw in a basket of brake parts off a junkyard old f150 from knuckles out. The problem was that the joints are different and therefore would only seem to match up on the dana 44. I just stuck with rebuilding the drums which seem to work just fine stopping my 33s, but otherwise I could only find the setups from the EB retailers here in the states.
