Distributor Vacuum Deceleration Valve

The picture below (according to my manual), is the "Distibutor Vacuum Deceleration Valve" - whatever that means!

The input hose connects to the carburetor, one side connects to the top of the Distributor vacuum port and the opposite side connects to the intake maniford - is this correct? Also do I really need this part, and if so where can I find one, seems that all the catalogs I've looked at do not carry the part?

I suspect that that is an old form of a Vacuum Delay Valve. The function of one when put in a distributor vacuum circuit is to smooth out the effect on the. VDV's are readily available thru parts places that cater to older vehicles.

Do you really need it?, probably not since most advance circuits hook directly to main vacuum. You could just run a vacuum line directly to a port under the carb which is effectively the same pressure as a main vacuum tasp on the intake.

What eng. ??

On one 302 equipped EB, the vac. advance just caused pinging...(todays "junk" gas)

I plugged it off & set timing at 6-7 deg. adv.

It worked fine that way.
Thanks for the reply - the engine is a '70 stock 302. Like you said, it doesn't seem to matter running with or without the valve.

crane sells a adjustable vacum adv. kit it has spings to change your mech. adv. curve. buy it! dump all this other shit. when you put it back together put it in the small gap in adv. mec.set your in. timing at 12 or so more is better. to a point. read the instuctions.your one step closer to hot rodding.from the mountain.hillbilly
