Help !! the top two bolts holding the clutch pedal bracket to the top of the dash have pulled out due to rust.is it possible to cut an access hole through the top of the cowl under the hood to access this area and make a repair with new steel?
i am replying to my question because i came up with an easy fix. what i was refering to was the top two bolts that mount the clutch pedal and brake pedal bracket to the top of the dash/firewall rusted out and when you stepped on the clutch the pedal assy. dropped down. to fix this, cut a 3" wide slice 24" long on the top of the cowl along the firewall. peel the metal back to reveal where the mounting holes were. my section was completely rusted away with no place to weld or bolt any metal
i took a 36" long 2 1/2 inch wide steel strip, drilled holes where the bolt holes should be. then i slid the steel into the access hole i cut. there is a tunnel under the cowl running from one side of the truck to the other. (this is where all the water accumulates causing the rust under the dash) the steel will fit tight. no need to weld in place. run the bolts through the pedal assy into the new steel strip and you will have a solid clutch pedal!
