I have a clunk in my rear end when I start and stop. When I took the diff cover off to change the oil and check the gears and see what's going on, I found no broken bits and nothing worn in abnormal pattern. But when I spun the driver side tire, it would spin about an inch before any gear inside would move. It "lagged," if you will. Is this a spider gear, a carrier, a shim, a ring/pinion problem, or axle shaft? And I asked someone at work, he told me get a banana, slice up the peel, and drop it in there and that'd stop the clunking... What???
