Both are good, so get both if you want to cover everything as they're low cost. The Haynes will guide you on 98% of the basic sysytems, anything missing you ca nfind online or here at the forums.

I asked this question of some friends too. They recommended the Haynes. I just bought one off of eBay for $5.75 including shipping. I LOVE eBay. B)

I prefer haynes over chilton. As stated above,it goes into more detail, pictures and testing of individual components. My father in-law bought a Chilton's for his van we were working on the other day and I just wanted to throw it in the garbage.

IMHO you can't beat Helms! They ARE pricey ($90 for just the shop manual) but they detail EVERYTHING. There are seperate manuals for engine, vacuum and electrical, and wiring. If you plan on doing you own wrenching, these are worth the $$$$.

If you are really serious about wrenching opn that truck, get a set of shop manuals. You can quite often find them on ebay. Haynes and Chilton are the readers digest version. The shop manuals will cost you a few bucks but well worth it. That combined with an EVTM for your vehicle and you will have more information than you can stand :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

There are several book dealers on ebay that specialize in that type of book. Even if they don't have any for sale, you can email them and let them know what you are looking for. They may have it but not listed on ebay.

I think I paid around $75.00 for my shop manuals and around $15.00 for the EVTM. Then I baught a set of parts catalogs for 80 - 86 for around $125.00. It has been well worth the investment. If you had to choose between them, I'd get the EVTM first since it is the biggest help in trouble shooting.

OK bla bla bla
