First, is it turning over? If it is It could be that the starter isn't engaging the fly wheel.

Thats not good. with the spark plugs out you should be able to turn the engine over by hand very easily.

Prior to buying it, have never seen or heard it run? Sounds like your engine could very well locked up. What type of engine is in that bad boy anyway? You could take the old engine out and pop in a 460! I hear that's a very populat swap.

Your gonna have to sit down and listen to all the options people give you on here if you want help with this. One line answers isnt going to get your truck running. Lets start from the beginning, Give all the info you know one the truck. When did you hear it run? Why didnt it have a starter? How did you hear it run if it didnt have a starter? The way you wrote was the truck hasnt run for a year. your engine can get dry seized in a year. Where did the starter you have now come from? do you have the old one? If you do compare the nose cones to be sure they are the same length. Did you try turning the engine over by hand to see if it actually will turn? Things that would cause the winding noise would be the nose cone not long enough, or the solenoid not kicking out the gear to to engage the flywheel.
