I have a 75 Bronco that was passed down from my dad. He had the motor and tranny rebuilt a few years ago. Very recently it started to back fire really bad...Now it won't start at all. He doesn't think it has jumped time.

This is what i've replaced so far:

Ignition Box

Fuel Filter

Checked the Fuel Pump

Carb was junk...Had it rebuilt.

When I poor gas in the top of the Carb to get it started it will start to fire but only long enought to burn off the fuel i poured in.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

sounds to me like its definitely a fuel problem...if it fires when you pour it in the top but stops that means its running out of fuel...when you do that once it shuts off pump the linkage and see if any fuel squirts out...coulda been a bad rebuild ive had that happen to me before.

Ditto what Swampthing said, and check for vacuum leaks. vacuum leaks cause a lean condition and thus a hard starting condition , especially when cold as well as backfires.

The pvc line is a usual culprite, as well as the vac line to the brake booster, or the booster itself. Check all the lines. As I remember the older Broncs had tons of them!

Hi ark75.., Welcome...!

This issue comes up ev. 5-10 posts...

It's almost always timing/ignition, fuel, electrical, or a combination there of.

Check for spark --- If it's there.,

Check that #1 cyl. is at TDC with dizzy rotor pointing to # 1 in the dizzy cap. (on compression stroke)

Insp. dizzy internals, cap, vac. advance.

Accel pump should squirt enough fuel to do what you're doing via pouring fuel in. If not, as stated, a carb. issue.

If the dizzy was properly locked in place...& the rotor doesn't line up...it's likely a timing chain issue.

"....it will start to fire"

Does it run smooth or rough when you do this...?

What does "checked fuel pump" mean..?

Thank you everyone for the responses.

I checked the fuel pump by pulling the line connected to the fuel filter and pumped the gas...it was pumping gas into the filter.

I will check these things and let you know.

Thanks again

Thats fine but not enough fuel, here is my standard reply(cause you said its been sitting...Clean out the tank(drop and empty and check for rust, blow out the lines, clean out the pump and pop off the carb ends and blow it all out with air. This will make 95% of all fuel issues go away. 1/3 of a day and a one banana fix as long as you have compressed air.......
