On the very rare ocassion, I will PM someone, or be pmed by someone while we are both online with the suggestion to go to chat. THat has worked a couple of times. Unfortunatley I don't think that it has sound alerts like AIM does so one needs to keep the window open to see if someone arrived.
Once I posted a new thread, simply announcing a time a date for a chat, and half a dozen of us showed up and chatted for a couple of hours.
