Hi I'm new to the site I have a 79 bronco running a 460 with a 4 inch lift and 35's. i bought the truck 6 months ago and love it but since i bought it the brakes have been real week. I thought the front pads and rotors might be shot but they looked almost brand new i did find a stuck caliper and replaced it and bled the system still barley any braking force the pedal is still soft but i cant find any air in the lines. If i try to do a brake torque its like the brakes aren't even there any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

check the brake booster, a large circle located behind the fluid reservoir, this may have gone bad and therefore loosing power brakes.

you might try adjusting rear brakes. if they are wore out or way out of adj. it can cause soft pedal. if not it is probably the master cyl.

I put a master cylinder in not long ago thinking that was the problem it did help but brakes were still bad. I looked at the rears and it looks like the wheel cylinder are leaking could that be contributing to the problem?

kingbronco, I have had the same problem with the 78 Bronco, and agree that it's likely a leaky rear wheel brake cylinder. I keep loosing fluid, and the brakes go out. I finally noticed it the other night when I drove into the yard, and the headlights hit the back left tire from underneath. Noticed a dark streak running down the inside of the tire. The rear cylindrs are only liek $10 apiece, and it's a fairly easy repair. the rubber on the ends of the cylinder will go bad, especially if the vehicle sits for a while. JSM84
