I just bought a 1973 Bronco Explorer, it has a factory Auto trani in it, and the PO put in a shift kit. Now it really "jumps" when you put it into drive or reverse, and when it shifts. I have done some searching on shift kits here and in general, and can not find alot of just general information. I am hopeing some one can point me to some reading or answer a few simple questions.

1) it seems that a shipft kit is supposed to improve the performance of the trani, it is clear that the shifting is taking place faster, but almost too fast, the "jump" when it shifts from 1st to 2nd is pretty big, shakes the whole Bronco. Is this normal? or is something our of wack? and are there degrees to this so it could be tunes out a little?

2) are shift kits more taylored to off roading? it seems to me that the "jump" would be pretty difficult to manage in an off road situation, it is tough enough on the road. So I guess the question is why would one choose to install a shift kit? what is supposed to be gained?

3) how hard are they to put in and take out? not sure I want the "performance" this is bringing to the Bronco.

thanks in advance.

Jim
