Hey i am new to this site and need some advice to upgrade my bronco. i have a 84' fullsize bronco with a 351w and a automatic tranny. 4x4, it has custom bumpers front and rear, and the whole thing is rhino lined inside and out, black of course, here are a few problems, it has a large crack in the bell housing, it burns oil like no other, it has a pretty f***ed up interior which i plan to rip out and start over. i want this truck to be big, bad and strong, i want to lift it at least 6", do i need a solid axle? and i want to completely rebuild the drivetrain to handle oversize tires and more power, i am thinking i nedd a new engine, tranny, transfer case, and possibly axles, any suggestion would be awesome. thanks

So what's your question? Should you build it? Absolutely. The only limit is your pockets if they are deep jump in get it done

Yeah i agree with Yardape... if you got deep pockets... go for it..

i have gotten alot of stuff from broncograveyard.com and lmctruck.com both of them are awesome sites.... and you can get plenty of tech advice from the people here in the Zone... Lots of people with lots of info..

and you can fit a 6 inch lift under the bronco... the ttb can handle the lift and you can easily fit 40 inch tires... thats aslo with a 3 inch body lift... so you wont need to get a solid axle conversion... you could tho... its expensive... but its something on my to do list... i want a 10 inch lift B)

GL with the bronco...

before you get too crazy with regards to lift and what size of tires you are going to be running i would first address the issues the truck is currently having such as the cracked bellhousing and why it's leaking so much oil

the best of the best always comes with a price

so in order to start figuring out what diffs and tires you are going to run i would first get that engine out of there and start with the engine. if you're brave enough to drop a 460 in then all the power to you.

however if you're going to be putting another windsor or 302 back in then you may want to seriously reconsider 40" tires.

you'll have to regear the diffs that you chose no matter what so start making some calls to find out how much it'll cost you to regear either the ttb or a solid diff and use that pricing to help make your decision as to how crazy you want to go with the truck

if you have 10g in the bank the GIT R DONE and post pics of the progress :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

If your stock 351 is on its way out I would first get started on building a new mo mo (that's baby talk for motor) . And do something with that trans. A C6 from a junkyard would be around 350 for a really nice one or you could get a new one. It all depends on pockets if shallow mods are best kept to a minimum. If deep dive in!

I would look for a late-80's to mid-90's F-350 with a 460 and drop the whole drivetrain under the Bronco. I found my 88 after searching for about 18 months just for a running 460. JSM84

Welcome to the Zone. I have an 84 and love my truck, right now its ugly but it runs good and the drive train is solid so I don't complain. There was a lot of great advice above, I would take it.
