Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about my 79 that will not start. I was driving it and the radio fried out after smoke was coming from the dash the bronc shut off and will not start. I have no lights and the key does nothing.

Thanks any help would be appreciated

i would check for blown fuses and replace if the fuse blows again this would help you know which circuit is bad. you will need a wiring diagram and a lot of wire and time if you melted the harness. if more than one circuit is toast i would look in a salvage yard for a used harness or buy a new one.

Yep... look under the dash for any bare wires, and melted plastic. I would do that before replacing fuses. I'm thinking that if it went bad enough that you saw smoke, that what is melted will be pretty obvious. IF not, then look to see which fuse blew, and like noted above track it down.

If it is just a few wires, they are color coded which makes splicing in new wires a lot easier.

Hey Guys Thanks for the help I found out what the problem was. The alternator must have spiked and taken out all of the lights voltage regulator and modulator and the fuse link that joins the wires from the battery and alternator. I am replacing everything that is shot and putting a resettable circuit breaker in line where the fuse link fried.
