I,m working on a 78 bronco wireing. I was looking for the wire that goes to the water temperature gauge and found only one wire nearest the gauge. I thought it was the wire. It is RED and WHITE and as I checked it with my tester. It blinks --like a signal light.haha All the other lights are hooked up. Why would this wire have a paulseing curent?

I believe that is the coolent temp. wire. It is supposed to be a red wire with a white stripe.

Are you describing the connection near the sender or the gauge? The wire should go into a connector that plugs into a printed circuit for the dash pod, and into a single post at the sender on the engine.

Can't say for sure why it pulses. has to be only when the key is on, and must be searching for a signal.

Hope this helps a little.

Good Luck

Not being familiar with 78's, I can only add that the EB's have a volt. reg. on the back of the inst. cluster. it reduces volt. to 6V & it does pulse. The volt. reg. operates the temp., fuel, & oil pres. gages. The needles move quite slowly so the pulse is not visable.

Point being.., the 78/79 rigs may have the same set-up/volt. reg.
