289 in a bronco

I was just wondering how common 289 were in the early broncos? I have a 73 with a 302 and know many others with 302 but didn't know if a bronco with a 289 was rare.

No, not rare.....

'66, '67 had the 289...believe it was 68 up have the 302 (same block)

Can you explain why 289 heads on a 302 would be better?

MOST 289 heads have smaller combustion chambers than the 302 heads. (most 302s are 9.5:1, 289 can be up to 10.5/ 10.9:1)

If you go looking for 289 head, make sure you purchase later 4v heads to also obtain the larger valves.
