I'm still considering what to do with this frame and body off of my 1988. I want to strip it down to the frame and start from scratch. It has the manual transmission. What transmission is this, and is it gonna need a lot of work or are they pretty hardy. It is a 4spd with overdrive I think. ANyone ever dealt with an old one of these. Also... If I decide to go with a 460 or big engine will this tranny work with it? Thanks.

Probably the M5OD-R2, I'd be changing it out for a ZF5, the only real advantage of the M5OD is that you have 4 speeds PLUS overdrive, If you want to keep the 4 speed plus overdrive you might want to switch to the ZF ment for deisle engins but you'll need an adapter plate, you might then not have a long enough input shaft, it might be too short to reach the pilot bearing. You might be able to change the internals out into the case designed for gasoline engins but I don't know, Any ZF5 experts out there?

WHen taking this bronco apart in order to rebuild it are they're any special things that I need to look for and hang on to? I know that there is a lot of rust on the underside of this thing. Thanks for the info. I know i'm going to keep all of the trim pieces, etc... from the interior.
