Tailgate and back window problems

I just got a 95 Bronco XLT. The tailgate wouldn't open so I took the interior panel and carpet off too see if I could see an obvious problem. I didn't see anything obvious so I went to roll the window back up and now that dosen't work either. Beyond frustrated at this point please send help!!!

To open it simply pull the two rods toward the middle of the tailgate. As far as the window there is a safety switch to prevent it from rising if not ingaged.
