this is my build up
my bronco is an 87. after much discussion with 79bigbronco i decided it would be easier and better in the long run to build a complete chassis seperate from my truck. biggest reason was that i needed something that was built properly but i didn't know where to begin. so with a little help from 79bigbronco a started to collect all the parts starting with a heavyduty chassis= 78 or 79. lots of reasons for not using my 87chassis. the chioce was made, i bought a 78 rolling chassis wich had d44, 9", 205tc. pulled a sbc6 tranny/tcase,posi from an 84 bronco, but had to trade 205 for alum borg, the output shaft of the sbc6 didn't engage the 205 so rather than waste time, i opted for the matching tcase. had to switch the yokes a couple times to match but it worked out with only minor cursing.
now, with the chassis selected it was cleanup time. i took the grinder to the frame and cleaned it up as best as i thought could be done... but not good enough for dave. no matter what this guy couldn't be pleased about anything i did. so i kept going back to redo and redo again but then i realised what the goal was so instead of getting frusterated, i took up a whole 2 weeks to clean properly... looking back... cleanup was a big part of why i have a cool rig... worth every minute!
the original goal was to complete my rig by maylong (canada).i had taken 10 days of that was supposed to be for wheeling... but my hard head got in the way. the pressure was on to seperate the body of the truck i was still driving dd. i drove in on the begginning of my holidays and in less than a day we had seperated the body thanks to a lil' tool we borrowed called frankenstien. the old chassis was scrapped and we wheeled in the new chassis complete with 79 4" lift coils and as the pics show 5"blocks/ slapper. with the body not weighing as much, the alum t-case and a small 351, the 4" lift springs were not compressing leading to the front being high. so we created a leveling body lift.
by the end of my holidays my rig wasn't finished so no wheeling that weekend but later that week i drove her home and the responce was very gradifying. the most impressive piont of my build was that we not only completed my rig but also completed dave 79 build as well. wich neither was an easy task and i was waorking full time elsware so this was done in eve and weekends on my part anyway.
i might not have rear lift springs but she sure does preform well when it counts and the angle shimms are no issue
