Was going to change the thermostat and noticed the neck has a bunch of what looks like vac lines/valves. What gives? Is there supposed to be something connected here?

Im hitting the junkyard friday to hopefully find some wiring harness parts and rear glass switches, tempted to hunt a normal filler neck.

Will be changing the thermostat and temp sender while flushing the system. Will a neck without all this BS cause problems?

An educated guess is OEM emissions equipment plumbing went to all those switch fittings.
If nothing is hooked to that stuff and everything runs fine, replace it with a plane-jane one & your good to go.

Those are thermal vacuum switches, likely for EGR, Spark Control, maybe Air Injection, etc.

New t'stat housings are only ten, maybe twenty bucks, and by application will come with the same threaded ports. Transferring those switches without breaking them will not be easy, and they are very hard to find when needed to restore emissions compliance and/or factory originality.

If it was me, I would replace housing with new, install pipe plugs into empty ports and save the old unit.

Those empty ports, BTW, are excellent locations for electric cooling fan switch should you someday choose that option.

True-dat.
Never throw away useable old parts as such. The stuff is becoming a endangered species as time marches on.

Swapped the neck out. Cleaned up the front of the motor a bit and allows much better access to my temp sender. I also installed the prestone coolant flush fitting so will soon be purging out all the discolored coolant that i can only guess is a couple decades old.

Im gonna toss this in my parts bin for now but if anybody here is in need of a replacement ill ship this out for $70
