C6 transmission on 73 Bronco

Hi everyone, I am new to the site. I am rebuilding a 73 Ford Bronco. It has a 1979 302 (casting# D90E-6015-E3A). It has a C4 tranny in it now that is shot. A friend of mine has a rebuilt C6 transmission he will give me for free. Will a C6 transmission fit? What modification will have to be made. Thanks.

I might be better off having my C4 tranny rebuilt. Can you please list the modifications? I would appreciate it.

Sure.., here goes..;

Requires a 4WD C6 with 31 spline output shaft..the shaft needs shortning.

"J" shifter...the mount. assy. & poss. the shift rails need mod. or replaced.

Need "auto" shifter set-up.

Transf. case sets 2.5" farther back.

The kit is $615 by itself.

I would.... unless one is doing major "rock-crushing" ....the C4 will do just fine.

Suggestion...This is a "good" time to fresh'n up the Transf. case .., you know, while it's out.

A fresh, strong trannie may make the transf. case the "weak-link"
