Just bought a 1984 bronco 4x4 with a 351 Windsor. The price was killer so I didn't care about the condition of the motor. The people who owned it did a lot of BS mickey mousing with the vacuum lines and electrical. IE cutting and leaving some wide open, or cutting and plugging with screws. needless to say it is running very lean and the headers begin to glow after a few minutes of running and the idle is high. I plan on cutting back on all the emissions lines to the bare minimum for proper operation, and I am bypassing the EGR entirely. has anyone done this and have a diagram or advice? I don't know much about these motors yet, but I know enough to start with the help of YouTube university. But I am completely lost with these vacuum lines.

So 84 has a carb? I assume?

If so, just plug everything.
I think all you need is Brake booster, and HVAC controls, (which you can live without while trouble shooting) maybe Vac advance on distributor depending on what they all did to it.

I use starting fluid to check for leaks. Use carb cleaner if ya like. Spray around the base of the carb. Worn throttle shafts, warped base plates are common on rigs that people keep cobbling up like that.

Yo Buckstalker17,
Welcome!
As Tiha advised.
Vacuum Leak Test; On an idling engine check for vacuum leaks using a mechanic's stethoscope, or a ~3' garden hose section.
On COLD ENGINE only, use propane torch w/rubber hose attached, UNLIT or spray carb cleaner, when it gets to the the leak the RPMs will rise.

Suggest buying a vac gauge, best low cost test and MPG helper you can spend $ on;

Yo Buck,
Sorry for not completing my post, needed an eye rest
Here is a vacuum diagram for a 351W from a pickup. It is the same for the Bronco minus one of the Purge CV hookups. The second diagram is a picture of hookup without the air pump.

"...I plan on cutting back on all the emissions lines to the bare minimum for proper operation, and I am bypassing the EGR entirely. has anyone done this..."

I'd not advise that. R U a tech who has some knowledge (& backward tech @ that)? "Micky moused" is B cuz the last guy may have had none or U have none and he did it right.
This is not some neanderthal, knuckle draggin endeavor but esp @ that transition era, very scientific and a lill esoteric. Esp dependent on carb (I have wrked on the carter BBS/BBD on ford/chryslers) and have seen them do some really great things. Redesign ur whole intake, ign, advance, carb'n ehx or ck in w/posts 3, 4, 5 and put on the long paints.
