1986 Bronco II - won't idle when A/C is on

This rig has seen a lot of love over the past few years, and it's about to get a new owner this weekend. (Sale pending) Today I took it for a drive for the first time in a while, since the weather warmed up. I figured I'd make sure the A/C was still blowing cold...and it wasn't. I...

    1986 B2 2.9L - Fuel pump relay wiring issue

(Sigh...) After replacing the wiring harness we spent a lot of time troubleshooting potential electrical connection issues. I removed the electrical tape and plastic casing to expose most of the wires. When we exhausted other troubleshooting, I tucked those wires together along the path they...

    1986 B2 2.9L - Fuel pump relay wiring issue

Sorry for the slow response. Success! (30 second video wouldn't upload, so here's a link) Tried to get the front end aligned, but the steering box was failing. Finished replacing that just last week. Aesthetics at this point. Replaced the front seats from a donor. Putting all the trim back...

1986 bronco II Y/LB wire fuse?

Spot on! It didn't look blown when I inspected it the first time, but the ohm meeting caught it. Thanks guys. Back in action!

1986 bronco II Y/LB wire fuse?

Looking for where a fuse might have blown for a yellow wire with light blue stripe in the dash behind the cigarette lighter. My son attached a USB charger using this wire and a ground alongside it but didn't tape the connectors. Removing it...I grounded it out. ("Zap", and now no juice) I...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Time for an update... Timing is at 12 degrees. (white crayon mark in the attached picture) Last time we checked (almost a month ago it seems) it would idle w/o the SPOUT connector, but not with the SPOUT installed. This afternoon I started it for the first time in weeks, and it idled...a little...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Good call on the PIP. ;) Finally got to warranty-exchange the distributor assembly, and minus the spout she's running well! Adding the SPOUT...not-so-much. Son's headed off to college next week, and hoping to get this thing running/driving so it can be sold. (After putting so much love into...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Motech - You caught my attention... KOEO - EMISS light stays on. Turn key to start - EMISS light goes off. Crank - EMISS light flickers (more on than off) Just to double-check, I found a nice post where Seth had the same "no-start" problem on a full-size Bronco (remote ICM) and provided a...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

And the story resumes... New ICM/TFI installed a few weeks ago. Started right up, idled OK; so we focused on timing. She was purring at idle! Acceleration seemed much better. Ended the day on a high note! A few days later, it wouldn't start. :( I was holding the TFI (installed) adjusting the...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

$85 for just the module. :( Autozone charged as much for the distro assembly (black module) RockAuto has been our other "go-to", but with a 'testimonial' for the CarParts.com version, we jumped on that bandwagon. (Are all "gray" modules created equal?) I see the same Standard ICM is $56 with a...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

It's been a while, so here's an update: Replaced the TPS after voltage reads were inconsistent with what is expected. It was still accelerating rough, but running well enough for a short drive within the neighborhood. Sunday a friend approached me after noticing our B2 in the driveway. Seems he...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

We suspected the timing gears about 6 months ago and took it to a local (ex-Ford) mechanic. He took off the front-end and verified everything was copasetic there. (Replaced gears while he was in there) I don't recall if he replaced or just validated the timing chain. Waiting for a response from...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Heads have not been removed since we've owned it. Timing gears were replaced about 4 months ago. We rotated the engine until Piston #1 was visually TDC, and the timing mark comb was at 0. (The pointer, not the circle view finder) I wire-tied each spark wire to ensure no contact. No change. I...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Checked each spark plug (replaced within a year ago). None broken/damaged. One was slightly oil fouled. We cleaned it. No change. I used wire ties to make sure every wire was at least 1/4" apart at all times. No change. Capacitor on the coil power wire is there and bolted to the coil mount...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Tried the carb/choke cleaner test. While idling as I accelerate sprayed into the throttle body. No difference. As for bad gas? We actually pumped 10 gallons out and added fresh fuel 2 days ago. Definite improvement, but still rough at acceleration. And to clarify, there's no specific 'rough...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

"Strange things are happening at the Circle K" Blk/lt grn - confirmed as you described. (It increases confidence when I can match the drawing, advice and visual observation) Gry/Yellow - identified and discounted. Green/blu - 3rd "signal" wire identified and traced to the top-end where we...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

OK, ECM replaced. (Cardone replacement under warranty from O'Reilly) No change...except the Fuel pumps come on at KOEO like they are supposed to. So the next step is to measure mv DC on the O2 sensor circuit. Tomorrow morning we'll take that on. Looking at the wiring diagram..."Heated Exhaust...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Season 2, Episode ? Thanks to @L\Bronco we managed to 'do the dance' and get KOER codes: 25 “Knock not sensed during dynamic response test” 41 “Oxygen sensor circuit indicates system always lean” Knock Sensor Tested the 'patch' between the main wiring harness and the knock sensor. Found...

    1986 B2 2.9L acceleration hesitation

Wow...that sounds like a college freshman initiation challenge. ;) Seriously, let me confirm: during the 30 it should rev up to around 1500 RPM and run a series of tests [I assume this test is after it's warmed up, and the rpms are back to ~1,000, so the ECU will rev back up to 1,500 RPM?]...

    1986 B2 2.9L - Fuel pump relay wiring issue

It won't die. It'll recover...mostly. It idles pretty well too, but did die a few times when left alone for a few minutes.
