1984 Bronco XLT 351W 4180C carburetor - which port is for vacuum advance PLEASE RESPOND

Thank you, but was that the bottom baseplate or the throttle body? There's a big difference. I put the distributor vacuum advance on the small port throttle body and purge vacuum on the small port baseplate and everything went to crap real fast. Tried starting the engine and it cranked really...

1984 Bronco XLT 351W 4180C carburetor - which port is for vacuum advance PLEASE RESPOND

I couldn't find an answer so I hope someone can. I have 2 ports on the base plate, one small, the other large. The large goes to PVC valve. I have 2 ports on the throttle body, one small, the other large. The large with a big blue rubber vacuum cap. Where does the vacuum advance line go?

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

To close this out... I just replaced the ignition control module and timing mark is flashing where it should, at the timing marker. So, timing is set properly per standard procedure. Luckily I have not driven the Bronco out of my garage this entire time. Just finished cleaning it up getting...

    351W - engine screeching

To end this out... I replaced the water pump pulley and power steering pulley and cleaned/stripped the crank shaft pulley. New belts. I also replaced the harmonic balancer since I have an issue with the timing mark not flashing at the timing pointer. Anyway, no more squealing.

What size power valves are everyone using on 351W High Output 4V 4180C carburetors?

Like the title says... what size power valves are you using in your 4180C E4TE-9510-ARA LIST-50174 Carburetors? I'd like to get a range of what's being used. Thanks!

351W - what happens with smaller crankshaft pulley?

Hi all, The original crankshaft pulley is 4 bolt 3 v-groove with 8" diameter. I just received a new pulley that is 5 3/8" diameter. I'll have to send it back... it will effect the alternative charge, power steering, and water temp IMO. I took the wire brushes to the original crankshaft pulley...

    351W - engine screeching

Hi, Thank you that's good advice. I started it without belts and no screeching. I have always heard screeching near/below the water pump. Smog pump and alternator are new with new pulleys. All belts are new. Water pump and power steering pump are also new. I did transfer over the crankshaft...

    351W - engine screeching

Hi all, My bronco has always made a screeching sound when it starts. It’s similar to what it sounds like when power steering fluid is low and I turn the wheel left or right. After the engine warms up it will still screech when I step on the accelerator or use the throttle at the carb. All...

    1989 Ford Bronco

I have a 1984 Bronco. I have taken the tailgate off several times to repair it. I use a long iron pipe that I slip over the torsion bar. I have one side of the bracket ******* in but not all the way so that I can move it into place once the torsion bar is in position. I just pull the iron pipe...

    Starter issue

Okay, here is my update on this issue. FIXED! Here is a photo of the starter in the old index plate on my engine. It's easy to see all the movement around the starter. I purchased a used starter index plate (bellhousing separator plate Ford D8DE-6A373-CA) in excellent condition for $50 off of...

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

I reported that I have done the timing to TDC of plug 1 compression ****** and rotor points to number 1 position on dist cap as expected. This bronco valve cover says timing to 10 btdc and so I mark that on HB. Next I start the truck but it's a hard start with low vacuum. Once started, I turn...

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

I have the truck running with 20 in/hg vacuum and runs well except the timing problem hasn't changed. The timing mark 10 btdc on HB is still flashing near the half circle notch of the timing pointer for the engine to run the best. If I turn the dist to the right of the sweet spot to flash 10...

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

Thanks for the info but I have all of this and that's how it is wired. The timing marks are clearly visible on the HB. Today I set it to 0 TDC for initial timing at timing pointer and set the distributor for rotor pointing to #1 on cap. Was a rough start and once again the engine ran best with...

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

The balancer has all the timing marks clearly visible so no need to remark or retape. When setting initial timing, there is a procedure to follow and marking the balancer and setting TDC on plug 1 are part of the process or else why bother at all. I'm asking why does the 10 btdc mark I've...

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

I have the harmonic balancer marked at 10 btdc. When I turn the crank to get plug#1 to TDC compression ******* the mark for 10 btdc is 1.5" before timing marker... normally it should 10 btdc at timing marker.

Need urgent advice timing an 84 351W... There is something strange going on

Hello, This summer I clean up the engine bay and pulled the distributor. I did mark the position and photographed it so I could drop it back in. When I was ready to start the engine again, I dropped the distributor back in same position and couldn't get it to start and ruined a starter. I...
